Frequently asked questions
How do I open a .dcm file from a hospital CD?
Copy the files from the disc to your computer, then drop them here. The images are usually inside a folder named DICOM or IMAGES, often without file extensions.
Do I need to install anything?
No. The viewer runs in your browser on Windows, macOS, Linux and mobile.
How many images can I load at once?
Up to 200 slices per series.
What do Window and Level do?
They control which range of the stored grey values is mapped to your screen. Adjusting them reveals structures that are invisible at the default setting — the same image can be read for lung, soft tissue or bone depending on the window.
Can I view CT and MRI series, not just single images?
Yes. Multi-slice series load as a stack you can scroll through, with a filmstrip for navigation.
My files will not open — what now?
Check that you copied the actual image files and not only the DICOMDIR index file, which contains no image data. Files compressed in formats a browser cannot decode may also fail to load.
